Project Management

Project management is at the center of all Bleum services. All Bleum project mangers are certified as Project Management Professionals (PMP) managed by the international Project Management Institute (PMI). In addition, all Bleum project managers go through rigorous initial and ongoing training on the Bleum process which includes thorough processes and documentation for all aspects of project management. Specific project management strengths include the following:

English - We work very hard to maintain a high English proficiency throughout our Shanghai development center and require that all new employees have English skills at a certain level and that all employees in customer facing positions, including project managers and technical leads, be at a higher level.

Systems - Supporting Bleum’s development process is Hydra, Bleum’s Quality Management System. Hydra is a web-based project management system integrating all the key development processes and tools, as well as a customer communications portal providing customers real-time visibility into project status.

Estimation – Critical to project planning and management, we are continuously refining our estimation skills. For most projects we complete two separate estimations using two methodologies – often Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Function Point (FP) – which we then compare to arrive at a conclusion.

Requirements - The Bleum process is largely based on RUP (Rational Unified Process), and as such, relies on use cases to drive user requirements. We begin by completing a use case survey which then drives individual use cases. Supplemental specifications are used to define all other application requirements.

Project Planning & Tracking - To create the project plan, the Bleum project manager will elaborate on the WBS (work breakdown structure) estimate. From the initial set of tasks he/she will break tasks down until the appropriate level of granularity is achieved. The project plan is then base-lined. Bleum makes significant use of the Earned Value metric for tracking project status and performance.

Change Management - When changes come to the Bleum project manager he/she will document the change and deliver a Change Request (CR) document to the client project sponsor. The CR will include effort, cost and schedule impact. Only changes approved by the client will be implemented and the project plan will be updated.
